A chemically recyclable biodegradable polymer for food packaging
Currently polymers are very common in our lives. And it is that most of them are known as plastics and are used in sectors as diverse as automotive, medicine, construction... Another very important sector is food packaging. The most widely used packaging materials are poly(ethylene) and poly(ethylene terephthalate), due to their excellent physical properties and low cost. However, once used, they are thrown in the garbage and last for many years before being degraded, which is why they accumulate in the environment, generating a big problem.
“An alternative to this problem is the use of biodegradable polymers. Biodegradable polymers degrade through the addition of carbon dioxide, water, methane, inorganic compounds or biomass. Therefore, no waste is generated,” says Ainara Sangroniz Agudo, researcher at the UPV/EHU's Department of Polymer Science and Technology.
The researcher has highlighted that "the chemically recyclable copolymers that we have synthesized in this work have excellent barrier and flexibility characteristics, very similar to the materials currently used on the market, so their replacement in the future is possible. To do this it is essential to reduce the cost of the process, which is currently still very expensive”.🍴🍴🍴🍴🍴🍴🍴
----In our opinion, we find this news of great general interest, as it may encourage people to try to use packaging that pollutes as little as possible. In the same way, if this news reached large food companies, they could change their packaging for polymer packaging. Although today it is a somewhat expensive solution, we think that, when possible, this reality can help to pollute less, as well as reduce the damage already caused centuries ago.
I think it is a very interesting new.
ResponderEliminarNowadays we use a lot of plastics that goes to the rubish and oceans.
This new type of packaging is good for the environment.

We find this news as interesting as it is useful. We hope that in the near future we can achieve the objective of biodegradable polymers, since it will be very good for preserving the environment despite the fact that its cost is a little higher than it is now, in a few years it will be appreciated.

For me this new is very interesting and very useful . We hope that in the future we will be able to achieve the objective of biodegradable polymers, since it will be very useful to protect the environment despite its great cost. Sergio
ResponderEliminarI think that it is amazing that this packages leave no pollution, as most of the packages we use everyday are not biodegradable. I hope that in the future most of the packages are made of non-polluting polymers

What more interesting and fun news to read. I think it is a very good way to reuse plastic, since most of it goes to oceans, seas and rivers. It is also a very good way to reduce pollution. Also most of the packages of our day to day are ot biodegradable and these ones yes.

This is great, thanks to this we may get rid of using plastic for everything one day. Is very interesting and I will love to be able to see that this option beats plastic some day. Julia
